Holiday in DK

The next two weeks is the great holiday period in Denmark. Almost half the population have left their job to take some time off.
Not me though. I am still at work.

So Why Worry?

… Baby, I’ll wipe away those bitter tears
I’ll chase away those restless fears
That turn your blue skies into grey
So why worry now?

(Small part of “Why Worry” by Dire Straits)

Words …

These words are written on a tablet computer. First traveling wireless to my internet router a few meters/yards away. Then through some old phone lines maybe 3 kilometers / 2 miles. Then through better cables and glass fiber. The target of these words: A specific server amongst several other servers in a server room amongst several other server rooms. On that particular server: A Blog (this blog). … And the words?
Hello World!

Reflections within

As written earlier, I have been working with things about me, I thought needed some improvements (and there is just so much potential for improvement in me).

One of the things, I have been addressing, is my worrying nature. I have been too good, worrying about things that never happened. And if they did happen, I worried about them once more.

I do believe I have improved greatly in that aspect. I do not worry so much anymore.

But after my holiday in The States, where large parts of the trip was driving out, without knowing exactly, where we would end up at the end of the day, I must admit to myself, that I still need to work with that.

All my holidays so far has been very planned. If more than one hotel has been part of the trip, I have usually known all the addresses, and the dates for arrival and departure.

But not this time … And I loved it! It was a fantastic way of travel. We did aim for specific cities when we drove out in the morning. So we got a little lost at times. But mostly we had not planned a time to be somewhere, so it was not possible to be late.

It wasn’t that hard for me to travel that way, so I have moved myself to a certain extent. But at times I was a little worried, when it started getting dark and we still hadn’t found a place to stay for the night. I still have some work to do there. 🙂

Why I travel?

Why I like to travel?

Out:
  New experiences
  Fantastic weather (often)
  Fun

Home:
  Work work work
  Bad weather (at this moment)
  High taxes

              Why do you ask?

                                                🙂

10 states in 14 days

As written earlier, a friend and I had planned a trip to Japan, which got cancelled because of all the problems there.

Because we already had planned our vacation, we had to fill out the days with something. So we decided to fly to USA instead, spend a few days in Washington DC and then rent a car and drive along the east coast to New Orleans.

I have just returned from that trip. I suffer from serious jetlag. Though it is just past noon, my head still thinks it is in the middle of the night.

In two weeks, we have been in ten of the United States – or nine (I’m not sure if we crossed the line between Washington DC and Maryland):

Washington DC. The capital of the US – with lots of museums, governmental buildings, monuments and Georgetown.

Outer Banks. A string of narrow barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina.

Wilmington (NC), which has become a major center of American film and television production – famous for being the location of Dawson’s Creek.

Charleston and Savannah, some of the central cities in the old south.

And New Orleans – not like the other places we saw. A lot is happening in Bourbon Street, in The French Quarter. And they also play a lot of music there. 😉

Canceled visit to troubled land

For quite a long time, I have wanted to visit a specific place in Asia. Even back in time, when such travels were out of my reach, I wished to see it.

Then, in the beginning this year, it was suddenly possible for me to make such journey. I had the time and opportunity, so I went for it.

Together with a friend, we bought two tickets for an exciting trip to Japan, and we both looked forward to see Osaka, Tokyo and other large and small cities in Japan. Not to mention the possibility to experience thousands of blooming cherry trees.

You may already have guessed it: Just before our departure, Japan was hit by the “once a millennium” earthquake, followed by a massive tsunami … And something that, at the time of writing, looks like a serious risk of a nuclear disaster.

Though I have missed an opportunity to visit the country, I so long have wanted to visit, there’s another reason for me being sad at the moment: The thought of the Japanese people, struggling with all those problems; with even more problems ahead, if they don’t solve the trouble at the nuclear plants.

I wish all the best for Japan!

Will Eisner

I just saw on Google, that it is Will Eisner’s birthday today. Or at least would have been, if he had still been among us. Will Eisner is the person behind the fantastic graphic novel series The Spirit.
I do not read comic books that often anymore, but when I did, this was one of my favorites.
