Where the h… is Matt?

Do you know Matt? Matt likes to dance. Though he may not be the best dancer in the world, he quit his job to dance around the world. And what a fantastic idea this is.
I do envy him – not for his dancing ability, but for all the places he has danced.

This is the fourth time, I am writing about dates many people find special (history: 2007, 2006, 2005). Some people choose to get married at this date – either because they think it might guarantee good luck, or just because it might be a little easier to remember the date in the future.

In 1988 I decided to buy a Kenwood cd-player on August 8. I am not especially superstitious, but since money wasn’t something I had a lot of at that time, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to seek some luck. At least it would not diminish the chances for the player to last longer. As it happened, I didn’t buy it until later that month, but there seems to have been a little luck left, since I still have that player (even the batteries in the remote control are the ones that came with the player all those years ago). šŸ™‚

This date is particular special in China, with 8 being considered a lucky number. And with the Olympic Games starting today in Beijing, a little luck could probably be useful.

Abstraction

I surround myself with pictures that look exactly like the real world.
But if the art should look like life, it would have to be nonfigurative.

Worrying status

As promised: A status on my quest to improve myself. If you find it particularly tedious to read about touchy feeling stuff, then Now would be a good time to stop reading!

In earlier blog posts (this and that), I told about one of the things, I wanted to change about myself: the ability to worry about things that never happens.

There are still times when I start to worry about things that havenĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢t happened yet. But mostly I am able to discover an upcoming worry and – more or less – nip it in the bud. šŸ™‚ Often I go through entire days without starting to worry at all.

There is still room for improvement though. And I am still very good at panicking when things start to rumble. Something I really have to focus more on.

I’m back

Clouds

Hi everybody – I’m back again.

I was here all the time – at least physically, I may have been out of my mind – but could just not find the time and spirit to write my blog.

Lately, I have spent time after work on preparing for a certification. I’m not finished, but I only lack one test, so I don’t feel the same pressure anymore. I have also spent some time (and money) on getting a new gas boiler. And though that could have been a very fine story about a broken water heater resulting in a short circuit, I simply didn’t have the mental strength to write about it.

But now I’m back to write more nonsense about The Weather, Me finding Myself, and a few notes about Clouds and Bees (okay, I may not have written about bees yet – but I might).

Certified Waste of Time

Certified

One of the reasonsĀ I don’t write so often – besides spending most of my time at work – is because I spend the rest of my time on certification.

When working with the Ever Changing World of Technology, study seems to be a returning phenomenon. And the worst part is that besides getting some papers entitled “Certificate of Excellence”Ā, I can’t say that I have had any benefit of it so far. I still have two exams to survive, and then I’ll hopefully get back to more important things in life, e.g. writing my blog.

The vacuum cleaner

A couple of months ago, I ordered a new vacuum cleaner.
It arrived and I tried it. I found that I was not at all
pleased with it, so I returned it with a note saying:
“This vacuum cleaner sucks!”

A week later it came back with a note saying:
“It’s supposed to!”

Practical Colours

I haven’t told why I use these colours on my website – the light bluish background, and the darker greenish colours surrounding it. It isn’t becauseĀ I likeĀ theseĀ colours more than anything in the whole wide world. I think they look kind of nice, but I could probably find a lot of colours I would think was nicer to look at – but not necessarily as text background.

I have once read that your eyes are less likely to get tired, if you read text printed on light blue paper. It doesn’t reflect as much light as white paper but is still light enough to make the letters distinct, and somehow this colour should be the best choice.

I don’t know if the same conclusion can be used on computer screens – but that hasn’t stopped me from trying. In an effort to make the Blog easy and eye-saving to read, I have used this background colour and, to reduce light, an even darker colour on the sides.

Your health is my concern. šŸ˜‰

Upcoming blog posts in 2008

Upcoming blog posts in 2008

I haven’t been writing for a while. I’ve been too busy doing things I get paid to do, instead of doing things I like. šŸ™‚

I have a few things I would like to write about when I get the time.
Some of the planned blog posts in 2008 are a status on my quest to improve myself (at the moment I am working on not worrying so much) and a post about finding the truth in music (or through music? or TV-series?). That one is going to take some time and at this moment I am not sure it will be worth the time. But it will probably be fun to make the necessary research, and I think it could turn out to be both entertaining and intelligent (or I could be wrong).

What about the rest of the blog posts in 2008? Well I don’t know yet.

Suffrage

Today it is 100 years ago, women was given the right to vote in Denmark (at first in local elections, with full voting rights a few years later).

I just thought you would like to know. šŸ™‚
